Congratulations Dr. Justine Bich Lien Nguyen on successful PhD defense!

On January 28, PhD candidate Justine Bich Lien Nguyen gave her public PhD defense seminar and successfully defended her dissertation titled “Hot And Hindered: How Honeybees Coordinate Collective Thermoregulatory Behavior Under Diverse Environmental Conditions” to a packed audience with collaborators, friends and family from near and far joining via zoom.

During her time at Marquette, Dr. Nguyen has been incredibly productive. She taught multiple courses, gave numerous prestigious and award winning presentations of her research, served as the student rep leadership role, was awarded USDA-SARE funding, and published papers in Journal of Experimental Biology, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, and Science of the Total Environment with more manuscripts in prep.

She has been an incredible student, teacher, colleague, peer, friend, mentor, mentee, and pillar of the community during her time as a PhD student where she was asked to balance many roles. She has presented her research both in academic settings as well as to a wider audience interested in honeybee health. She has invested her energy into sharing her findings with local bee keepers, community organizations and associations, land managers, the general public, and youths to make her research and love of insects accessible and informative.

From everyone at the Cook Lab, congratulations Dr. Justine Bich Lien Nguyen! We are so proud of you and looking forward to life-long scientific collaborations and friendship with you.
