Life in the Cook lab

Our lab shares a vision of inclusion, creativity, and fun as central pillars of achievement. (We study social groups, can you blame us?)

Being a part of the Cook Lab means being celebrated, supported, and encouraged to achieve success in all its forms. We honor the diversity of thought that fosters new and different ways of thinking about the world, and the teamwork it takes for big, ambitious projects.

Our Core Values

Honest Evaluation and support

In all that we do, we work to ensure ALL members of the lab are collectively accomplishing learning goals.

Skills Beyond the classroom

A science education can provide skills for success in many careers. Cook Lab students learn to think critically, communicate their work, integrate ideas across multiple levels of organization and analysis, and compassionately approach the world.

Transparency

In our lab, we work to create a clear path to success. We utilize backward course design to identify learning goals, then clearly communicate those goals to students in lectures, for the semester, and for the exams.

Opportunities to join

PhD Students

THE COOK LAB IS FULL AND IS NOT ACCEPTING STUDENTS AT THIS TIME

We are looking for motivated, independent students committed to behavioral ecology research. All backgrounds and experiences should apply.

The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm above all and a commitment to be a good team member.

Undergraduate Students

Much of the work that happens in our lab is driven by undergraduate students. We are always looking for motivated, enthusiastic, passionate people. Ideally, undergraduate researchers will carry out small experiments during the semesters and be available for full-time field and lab work during the summer.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Marquette Biology has a small community of postdoctoral researchers.

I currently have an NSF Funded project focused on the genetics and physiology of thermoregulation starting Spring 2024 and is funded for 2 years.

In addition, I would love to collaborate on a proposal to submit to a number of organizations.
